Chile's copper workers try to get others to strike

Chile's striking copper workers were trying to persuade other unions on Sunday to agree on a general strike later this week against the military regime. Without support from other sectors, the copper workers' illegal strike may collapse, informed sources said.

On Saturday the Chilean government placed two copper mines under military control and reiterated its intention to enforce a ban on political activity.
