Inquiry into Lebanon war blocked by Israeli Knesset

The Israeli parliament rejected calls for a judicial inquiry into the government's conduct of the Lebanon war. The Knesset voted 56-50 against an opposition Labor Party motion and defeated a similar motion by the small centrist Shinui (Change) Party. Prime Minister Menachem Begin said an investigation would polarize the nation.
