Colombia's fight against leftist rebels was stepped up. The nation's Army commander went to a southwestern town to personally lead 5,000 troops against forces of the M-19 guerrilla movement. The rebels, whose leaders recently claimed that amnestied rebels were killed by paramilitary groups, began their assault in the area on Monday.
