Council delays decision on homosexual church

The National Council of Churches postponed for a year a decision on whether to grant membership to a church serving the homosexual community. At its annual meeting, the council failed to agree on the theological issues involved in admitting the Metropolitan Community Church, which claims 200 predominantly homosexual congregations worldwide. The council represents 40 million US Protestants.
