The Stan Getz Quartet: ''Pure Getz.'' Stan Getz, tenor sax; James McNelly, piano; Marc Johnson, bass; Victor Lewis and Billy Hart, drums. (Concord Jazz CJ- 188.) - It's good to hear pure Getz again, after tolerating his forays into the world of pop-jazz and knowing that he is capable of so much more. Here he's as strong as ever, and this is one of those happy sessions where everything really clicks. Getz has chosen the right people to

play with and the right tunes to play in the right tempos. Among the standards is the often-ignored ballad ''I Wish I Knew,'' which he takes at a lightly swinging medium tempo, and among the jazz tunes the Bud Powell song ''Tempus Fugit,'' taken at a rapid clip - Getz gets a nice gutsy, ''nasty'' tone on his horn on this one. On the ballads his tone pours like honey from a jar. Pianist Jim McNeeley stands out; he's beginning to get the recognition he deserves. A truly skilled player, he has a fresh approach to his improvisations and a clear, clean attack. At times he plays with a kind of carefree abandon that is fun to hear.
