Talks collapsed between Ford Motor Company and a Japanese company that wanted a controlling interest in Ford's Rouge Steel subsidiary near Dearborn, Mich. Apparently the United Auto Workers were unwilling to accept concessions wanted by Nippon Kokan K. K., which could have paved the way for the first major Japanese investment in the US steel industry.
