BritRail invites travelers to explore the scenic mountains, villages, lochs, and islands of northwestern Scotland with the Scottish Highlands and Islands Travel Pass. Offering unlimited travel by local trains and many bus and ferry lines throughout the Highlands and Islands area, the new five-day Highlands and Islands pass costs $68, and the 10-day pass is $113.

From Edinburgh or Glasgow, you can take a historic trip through the north and west of Scotland, visiting such cities as Inverness, Aviemore, and Fort William. Continue along less frequented routes by bus to Glencoe, Braemar, Loch Ness, and Culloden. By ferry you can visit any of the islands - Skye, the Orkneys, the Outer Hebrides, and others, which for centuries were the settings for medieval fortresses.

With the pass you receive a comprehensive transport guide to help plan your trip. The pass is good anytime between March 1 and Oct. 31, and must be purchased in North America before you leave. It is available from BritRail Travel International, 630 Third Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10017, (212) 599-5400.
