Monitor writer is honored for excellent commentary

Monitor writer Rushworth M. Kidder was a finalist in the 1983 Distinguished Writing Awards of the American Society of Newspaper Editors. He was selected for his excellence in commentary writing.

The awards were established to honor distinguished writing in general-circulation newspapers. The winner for commentary was Rheta Grimsley Johnson, Commercial Appeal, Memphis, Tenn. Other winners: Orland Dodson, Times, Shreveport, La., for business writing; Greta Tilley, Greensboro (N.C.) Daily News and Record, for nondeadline writing.
