Britian to allow 31 Poles from ship to stay awhile

Britain made an exception to its immigration rules by allowing 31 Polish vacationers who jumped ship two weeks ago to remain here for a year, officials said. The interior ministry said it believed six of the Poles who fled the cruise ship Stefan Batory had still not come forward, but it encouraged them to do so, assuring them they would be granted a one-year stay. The ship, with 390 passengers on board, docked in Tilbury, east of London, March 15.
