Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in several West German cities Jan. 29 to denounce the rise of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, whose National Socialists swept to power 50 years ago today (Jan. 31). Meanwhile, an opinion poll published in Paris showed a majority of French people believe a new Hitler could take power in a Western European country.
