1,500 Poles still held in jail, Warsaw says

Some 1,500 people are still being detained in Polish jails for political crimes committed in violation of martial law regulations, the military government said.

Government spokesman Jerzy Urban said that, of the number still detained, about two-thirds had been convicted and sentenced for political crimes and about one-third were under arrest pending trial.
