Chemical explosion causes major evacuation

An explosion of a poisonous chemical sometimes used to make tear gas forced officials to evacuate some 20,000 people from seven towns in the industrial heart of Louisiana.

No injuries or deaths were reported in the explosion and fire at the Union Carbide plant northwest of, and 17,000 reportedly were returned home Sunday.
