Italian premier visiting US as Washington smiles

Italian Prime Minister Giovanni Spadolini is making his first official US visit, buoyed in advance by praise from the Reagan administration for Italy's strong support of American foreign policy goals.

Mr. Spadolini was scheduled to arrive late Tuesday on a three-day visit. Despite Italy's differences with the United States over the Soviet pipeline sanctions, US officials say, Italian-American relations are stronger than at any time since World War II.
