Bonn gives tentative OK to US steel export curb

The West German Cabinet conditionally approved a Common Market plan to limit European steel exports to the United States, government spokesman Diether Stolze said.

The conditions are that the European steelmakers association, Eurofer, and the Common Market ministerial council give their approval to the deal, and that monitoring of steel tube and pipe exports to the US would not mean export limits for these products. In Brussels earlier, Common Market officials said 6 of the 10 governments had replied positively to curbs proposed by the European Commission.
