A frequent destination for visitors to Boston is Cape Cod, and Fodor's has just come out with a guide devoted to the cape and the islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. The book is jammed with practical information regarding when to go, how to get there, where to stay, what to see, where to eat, and so forth. (Fodor's Modern Guides Inc., New York, N.Y., $7.95)

Fodor's Cape Cod divides the cape into upper, mid, and lower, with separate chapters devoted to the two islands. Be forewarned that that wonderful restaurant you visited during one summer vacation may have suddenly disappeared by the next. The Cape is like that. All considered, this book is a handy guide to have.
