Political parties in Argentina formally recovered their legal right to function with the lifting of a ban imposed after President Maria Estela Peron was toppled in 1976.

President Reynaldo Bignone signed a law ending the political freeze. Before that, the Interior Ministry lifted an eight-year ban on political rallies by reimposing a 1973 law that only requires police permission for outdoor political meetings.
