Chile devalues peso to perk up economy

Chile announced that it was devaluing the peso by 18 percent against the dollar, Economy Minister Luis Danus said.

He said this was part of a series of measures the government will announce shortly to reactivate the Chilean economy, which became sharply recessive in the second half of 1981.
