Giving to US colleges broke record last year

Cash gifts to American colleges and universities hit a record $4.23 billion in 1980-81, the Council for Financial Aid to Education said Monday.

Harvard University got the most, $90.9 million, with Stanford University second, at $79 million, and Yale University third, with $58.3 million.
