British sub hooks Irish trawler, capsizing it

Britain admitted one of its submarines accidentally sank an Irish trawler off Dublin two weeks ago, the Irish Government said. All five crewmen were rescued after the submarine became hooked on a fishing net and dragged the 70-foot Sharelga backwards at high speed for two miles and capsized it. The submarine did not resurface, and Irish Prime Minister Charles Haughey ordered an inquiry into the incident, but a government statement said Britain had now accepted responsibility and would pay for damages.
