US vetoes UN resolution on Jerusalem incident

By

The United States vetoed a UN Security Council resolution condemning the April 11 shooting of Arabs on Jerusalem's Temple Mount by an Israeli soldier as ''appalling acts of sacrilege.'' The vote was 14 to 1. The US veto was believed to be an attempt to avoid causing Israel to delay withdrawal from the Sinai April 25.
