Report of peasants shot in El Salvador checked

The US Embassy is investigating charges Salvadoran soldiers executed 48 unarmed peasants, about half of them women and children. Two peasants who fled the village of Barrios told foreign journalists Army troops entered the village, believed to have been used by guerrillas as a way-station on a recent offensive, pulled people from their homes, and shot them
