Talks on Sinai indicate pullout will proceed

Last-minute meetings among Israeli, Egyptian, and American officials appear to be ensuring the April 25 Israeli handover of the eastern third of Sinai will take place on time, Monitor correspondent John Yemma writes. Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin was expected to announce, after a Cabinet meeting April 20, that the exchange would go ahead for the sake of peace. Israel began the evacuation of settlers from the Sinai city of Yamit April 19 -- another indication the transfer will take place on time.
