Democrats hope to enlist students irked by aid cuts

The Democratic Party plans to bring into its political fold 1 million new student voters who are angry over Reagan administration cuts in student aid.

Cuts in federally backed student loans have made an estimated 700,000 university students ineligible for aid during the current college year, Rep. Peter A. Peyser (D) of New York said. If the proposed loan cut for next year is approved, all loans for graduate students would be eliminated and an additional 1 million undergraduates would be affected.
National party chairman Charles Manatt urged sudents to register and vote Democratic in the 1982 congressional elections to protest the administration's actions.
