South Korean dissident gains partial amnesty

South Korean dissident leader Kim Dae Jung will have his life sentence for sedition reduced to 20 years under an amnesty benefiting 2,863 convicted criminals, the Information Ministry said.

President Chun Doo Hwan issued the clemency order to mark the first anniversary of his inauguration, the ministry said.
