New French liberation frees 600,000 cheeses

A strike force of former paratroopers with dogs, riot sticks, and tear gas made a daring raid on a Normandy cheese factory to rescue 600,000 Camembert cheeses held ''hostage'' by 31 striking employees.

The cheesemaker, which sent 120 security men to rescue the quickly ripening Camemberts from workers occupying its factory, faces legal action by the employees, police said.
