Wyoming weighs adding adjoining bit of Nebraska
Cheyenne, Wyo. — The Wyoming Legislature is considering asking its Nebraska counterpart to let residents of the Nebraska Panhandle vote on whether to become part of the state of Wyoming.
A proposed joint resolution asking for a referendum in the Nebraska Panhandle says that Panhandle residents have strong social, economic, and cultural bonds to eastern Wyoming and that many have expressed a desire to switch states.
If the Wyoming Legislature approves the resolution and the Nebraska Legislature approves the referendum, a majority vote of the Panhandle residents and the approval of Congress would be required to move the state line.
