Court frees Solidarity trio accused of strike attempt

A Warsaw court set free three Solidarity activists accused of organizing a strike to protest martial law.

The judge found two of the defendants not guilty and gave the third a suspended 18-month prison sentence.

It was the second time in less than a week that the Warsaw courts had rejected state prosecution demands for jail sentences under martial law regulations. The prosecutor had demanded prison terms of up to seven years for the defendants.
