Area: 679,358 sq. miles 95 percent of which is desert or semi-desert land. Libya is larger than Alaska and the six New England states combined. Army: 55,000 men plus a ''people's militia'' of several thousand. Main export: Crude petroleum (99 percent). Oil revenue estimated for 1981: $15 billion. Oil production: 750,000 barrels per day (July 1981). Ranks 15 in world production. Main agricultural products: Barley, wheat, olives, tomatoes, almonds, citrus fruits.
