Excursion group killed in Yugoslav jet crash

A Yugoslav DC-9 charter airliner crashed on a hillside in Corsica Dec. 1, killing all 178 people aboard, police said. The crash, in the inaccessible terrain of the Mediterranean island, was the second-worst crash involving a single chartered jet.

The same Yugoslav airline and type of jet was involved in in the worst in-air collision in history. The passengers were on a one-day excursion from Ljubljana to Corsica as part of celebrations marking Yugoslavia's National Day.
