Ex-IRA member is spared extradition by US court

A Federal Appeals Court has ruled that Peter McMullen, a former member of the Provisional wing of the outlawed Irish Republican Army who claims now to be on an IRA death list, cannot be deported.

McMullen said he quit the IRA after participating in a 1974 bombing because the group had become too extremist. He said that after serving prison time for terrorism, he fled Ireland because he refused to obey an IRA edict that he kidnap several Americans.
