Filipino students riot over US ties

Students denouncing US support of President Ferdinand Marcos rioted on one campus and marched through the capital city Sept. 16 in one of the largest demonstrations in years.

Police said four people were injured when police drew their revolvers to break up a scheduled march at Adamson University, about a mile away from downtown.

Screaming students scampered back to their classrooms and used stones and debris to pelt the gunwielding policemen chasing them.

The demonstration took place five days before the anniversary of the beginning of martial law on Sept. 21, 1972.
