Dennis Lamp of the Chicago White Sox, a journeyman pitcher who has a career 28-41 won-lost record going into this season, missed a no-hitter last week by inches agianst the Milwaukee Brewers. The first batter Lamp faced in the ninth, Robin Yount, looped a single into short left field that Rusty Kuntz dived for but couldn't quite catch.

Last year, with the Chicago Cubs, Dennis set a National League record for early showers. Although he started 37 games for the last place Cubs, he was relieved a league-leading 35 times.
