If you feel despairing about your life, there is something to give it a forward thrust into fulfillment and healing. No one is beyond the reach of God's love.
"I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly," n1 were Christ Jesus' words. And what did he bring to the world? The truth of his creator, God. He understood that truth; he understood that God is the loving Father of all. Was this understanding for him alone? No, he proved it by going out to the people, healing disease and raising the dead.
n1 John 10:10
Anywhere you dip into the Gospels you find reason for hope, even if you catch only a glimmer of spiritual truth. The power of God, divine Love, reaches across the centuries. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes, "It is not well to imagine that Jesus demonstrated the divine power to heal only for a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good." n2

So we can base our hope on the everpresent, provable spiritual laws of good, just as Jesus did. We can acknowledge the control of God, divine Mind, over our life and body. God's love and power are spiritual facts. Because God is omnipresent, there is in reality no room for evil to exist. Mortal mind, which is a term used in Christian Science to indicate the whole fabrication of a power opposed to immortal Mind, suggests we are without hope and at a dead end. We don't have to listen to such defeatism. In our darkest hour we can turn to God, to divine Truth, for the needed courage, strength, and wisdom. We can find healing. And we can have confidence. Mrs. Eddy says, "The fact that Truth overcomes both disease and sin reassures depressed hope." n3

I found that reassurance when I recently became deaf in one ear. I immediately dealt with the difficulty through prayer, acknowledging my unbroken unity with all-loving God. Because of many healings through prayer in the past, I had great hope for the restoration of normal hearing.
I knew that, as Genesis states, God created man in His likeness. n4 I couldn't conceive of Deity being defective in any way, unable to function perfectly, and I knew in my real being, reflecting Him, I couldn't be defective either. Moreover, I refused to accept mortal beliefs of infection and imferfection.
n4 See Genesis 1:26
I continued praying along these lines for almost two months, but there was little improvement. One night the discomfort and stoppage were very acute. Did I give up? No. My hope was based on trust in God's ability to govern His creation, including me, in perfect health and harmony. It wasn't based on the status of a material organ.
Fulfillment of my hope came suddenly the next morning. I awoke to find I could hear perfectly in both ears.
As we grow in our faith and trust in God, and especially in the spiritual understanding and practice of the laws of healing Jesus demonstrated, our hope becomes more than mere optimism. We find we are embraced inn the irresistable love and power of God's law, which destroys evil and melts barriers to progress and healing. As we prove a little more each day of our true being in God, we can echo the Psalmist: "Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance." n5
n5 Psalms 42:5.
