Summer Kingdom

There, when I hold my eyes just so -- Three quarters closed, the corners sealed from light, I see it once again, That other world Where it is never day and never night, But time suspended quietly in space Between the green and gold of afternoon And the dim evening, come too early. There is the sky -- opal and moonstone, And the wisps of trees Smudged like moss upon the gentle hill. There is the softly shadowed grass And that sweet bird All holl ow-boned and singing In my Summer Kingdon.
