Hollywood writers' strike on verge of settlement

Movie and television scriptwriters vote Tuesday on a 43 1/2-month contract, which may end a three-month- old strike and permit taping for the fall TV season. The proposal would give writers a 52 percent to 57 percent increase in minimums paid for scripts over the contract period plus a share of the home and pay-TV markets. The contract is retroactive to March 1.
