Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

For a moment there it looked as if tight-fisted budget director Stockman suddenly turned generous and gave his 550 employees an extra day off over the Fourth. But a spokesman quickly came up with Stockman- like figures to show that really, in a way, it was saving money. Ah, come on, David, you d on't have to apoligize. It really was generous, wasn't it?
