May Day will look different in Poland next week if Solidarity has its way. Never in Poland has it been an occasion for a parade of military hardware as in Moscow. There have been only marches of trade unionists, factory workers, and youth --with increasing informality in recent years.
This time around, it is doubtful there will be an organized parade at all, except as people choose to gather and celebrate.
It also seems there definitely will be no rostrum on which party and government chiefs stand above the crowds to make a patronizing ideological salute.m
