Shelling reprisals rock Israel-Lebanon border

Heavy artillery exchanges rocked southern Lebanon Tuesday as Premier Shafiq al-Wazzan announced he will seek a UN Security Council meeting to discuss the latest Israeli strikes against the south. A UN spokesman said Israeli and Lebanese rightist miltia gunners blasted Palestinian-leftist strongholds in the south with tanks, mortars, and heavy artillery.

Palestinian guerrillas responded with artillery and rocket fire after a night of heavy artillery exchange. It was the third day of serious fighting in the rugged southern sector.
