Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

Chinese Communist Party vice-Chairman Deng Xiaoping said that Hua Guofeng is still party chairman but implied that he would eventually step down, as has been widely predicted. "He is still the chairman of our party," Mr. Deng said at a brief press conference. Mr. Hua is expected to step down at the next plenary session of the party Central Committee, due to be held sometime this.
