US might have to pay up if Iranian assets are freed

A federal judge has ruled that the United States may be forced to repay private creditors millions of dollars in claims if Iranian assets are unfrozen to release the American hostages. The ruling would require the government to provide matching funds to compensate creditors for claims lost if administration officials give in to Iranian demands for the ret urn of assets frozen in US banks.
