Tropical storm Jeanne surprised forecaster and grew to hurricane force Tuesday in the Gulf of Mexico -- the first November hurricane in the area in 55 years. An Air Force reconnaissance plane reported Jeanne's top winds had increased during the morning from 60 mph to hurricane force of 75 mph as it moved toward the north-northwest at 6 mph. However, forecasters Tuesday said Jeanne was not expected to strengthen further "at this time" or pose any immediate threat to land.
