US visitor volume to South Africa rose 15.74 percent in the first six months of this year, the South African Corporation reports. "Most of this is straightforward pleasure travel," said Satour eastern manager Dale Pretorius. "Business travel historically represents about 30 percent of our volume. Hunters are a small percentage, though their numbers are rising fast because South Africa's conservation policies have created a surplus of game, where other lands are having to ban all hunting."

Though trailing the US, other South African tourist markets are also up -- Europe by 11 percent; Asia by 9 percent.
