Instant communication! Instant answers! Press the button, dial the number, and there's instant help! But what happens when human help fails, or isn't available? Is there an answer? Of course. It's God. He is omnipresent, and, if we turn in prayer to Him, we can prove that His law is always effective. The Bible describes God as saying, "And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer, and while they are yet speaking, I will hear." n1 Is there a more prompt response on any "hot line" today?

Man's unity with God as His spiritual expression is established and remains throughout eternity. Moses glimpsed this unity. In humility he listened to God , and he received the guidance he needed to lead the children of Israel out of tyranny.

Christ Jesus deeply comprehended man's unity with God. In his farewell prayer before his crucifixion, he affirmed this spiritual oneness not only for himself but for all who would understand and follow him. "The glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them , and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one." n2

The understanding of this unity is practical. If one is faced with a distressing family situation, he can reach out to God, divine Love. Love embraces its universal spiritual creation in harmony. There is no element separate from Love. Spiritual individuality is intact and concordant, never represssive or rebellious. And what is called matter can never overturn this immortal harmony of the universe, for when we glimpse spiritual reality as the only fact in a situation, matter yields its opposite testimony and harmony results.

Applying such facts of God and man can also heal illness. A woman was suffering from a bad cold. when she found she was not able to heal the difficulty through her own prayers, she called a Christian Science practitioner for help. The practitioner turned to God for inspiration, affirming the woman's eternal inseparability from her creator.

The practitioner soon saw that the cold was a physical manifestation of something more basic -- anxiety over a business step the patient and her husband were about to take.

When both the symptoms and this underlying fear were seen clearly as not representative of God's man -- man who eternally expresses health and wisdom from his creator -- and when the truth of the woman's spiritual unity with God as the reflection of all-encompassing divine Love was realized, she had a quick healing. Within a few days the woman felt impelled to make a particular move regarding the business that proved to be a wise one.

Mary Baker Eddy n3 writes: "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual, -- neither in nor of matter, -- and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a relief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well." n4
