Soviet soldier who sought asylum leaves US mission

A Soviet soldier who sought political asylum at the US Embassy in Kabul last week left the mission today after receiving Soviet assurances that he would be free to quit the Army, the State Department reported. The department said Pvt. Alexander Kruglov was given a promise of no retribution during a meeting with Soviet officials in the embassy, held under strict US ground rules.
