OPEC to resume price debate in October

OPEC ministers conceded temporary defeat in their attempt to develop a long-range oil pricing strategy and set another meeting next month to deal with the explosive issue that has sharply divided the energy cartel. United Arab Emirates Oil Minister Mana Aayeed al-Otaiba said the cartel will hold another meeting Oct. 14 "somewhere in Europe" to try to put together a long-range price plan in advance of OPEC's 20th anniversary summit in Baghdad, Iraq, in November. Saudi Arabia also pledged to continue producing oil at its current rate of 9.5 million barrels a day until the end of 1980 despite a glut on the world market that some OPEC members claim is costing them money.
