Zimbabwe admitted as 153rd UN member

Zimbabwe was admitted as the 153rd member of the United Nations Monday. The General Assembly, acting on a recommendation by the Security Council, took the decision by acclamation, without a formal vote on a resolution submitted by more than 60 countries, including Britain, the former colonial ruler. Prime Minister Robert Mugabe was on hand to accept membership for the Zimbabwe government.
