Health is God's will

Have you ever longed to know God's will? Once, when feeling ill, I prayed, "Father, what is Your will"? Instantly I realized: "God's will is health." A warm glow encompassed me, a deep calm where chaos and confusion had been.

Christ Jesus showed in his healing work this fact that God's will is health. n1 Jesus' very life was a model of perfect health and health-giving love -- God's will in action. To Jesus, God's will was law, and he cured by this law. He showed that health is an inevitable result of knowing God and living a life that expresses Him -- a life of purity, affection, spiritually-impelled purpose.

In the degree that we live God's will -- express His qualities -- we find exemption from illness. God includes no ill will, fear, or sin. A truly healthy life -- a Christianly vigorous, spiritually vital life -- God's will in action in human existence.

The Science of Christianity is the law by which Jesus healed. Today, Christian Science explains and demonstrates the works of Jesus. It enables us to follow the Master in healing. Science makes plain the nature of God as completely good, totally lovable, universally available. It shows man to be the loved expression of God. It tells us the will of God is justice and mercy. And it makes clear that we need humility and meekness if we are to understand and obey God's will.

Health is not just the absence of disease. It is an actual, present condition of divine Love, God -- the reality, order, and harmony of being governed by spiritual law. Health is not merely a reward for goodness; it ism goodness. It is a unique, indestructible, permanent quality of God -- a gift to all His children. through Christ, we confirm the permanence of true health.

Christ is the idea of God, showing mankind God's presence, goodness, law, and the fact that we reflect Him. It is divine reality made clear to humanity -- the understanding of our identity as the sons and daughters of God. Through Christ we gain this conviction that health is a quality of God, that it is His will or man. The mental state in line with this truth of being gives health to mind and body. Mry Baker Eddy n2 explains: "A scientific state of health is a consciousness of health, holiness, immortality -- a consciousness gained through Christ, Truth; while disease is a mental state or error that Truth destroys." n3

Disease is not God's will. It has no law, permanence, or harmony. It is self-will opposed to divine will. Health is God's will, and what is not God's will we have a divine right to dispose of. With the law of health, we can resist and overcome disease and sickness. Just as self-will yields to divine will, diseased matter must give way to spiritual substance and health. This is the action of Christ. Mrs. Eddy writes, "Realize the presence of health and the fact of harmonious being, until the body corresponds with the normal conditions of health and harmony." n4
