Former United Nations Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge, a familiar figure at Republican National Conventions for the past several decades, has resigned as a delegate to the 1980 GOP conclave in Detroit next month, citing "personal reasons."

The party's 1960 nominee for vice-president, who supported George Bush for the presidential nomination this year, remains at best cool to the nominee-apparent -- Ronald Reagan.

The one-time Nixon runningmate's son, George Cabot Lodge, supports the independent presidential candidacy of US Rep. John Anderson (R) of Illinois.m
