Indian Ocean shipments in existing plan, US says

Marine Corps equipment is being moved to ships positioned in the Indian Ocean as part of an existing Pentagon plan, not as an emergency move connected with the Iran crisis, Defense Department sources said. By the mid-1980s, the Pentagon plans to have enough equipment in position on or near the mid-Indian Ocean island base of Diego Garcia to supply 16,000 troops.
