Accept freedom

The happy sounds of gongs and drums in the streets, mingling with the explosion and sparkle of firecrackers, tell us there is something to celebrate. Festivals of rejoicing, in whatever form, will become even more significant than they are now when the laws of spiritual creation are better understood and more widely accepted as authority in our lives.

These spiritual laws assure us of constant benefits if we will live in accord with them. One of the greatest of these gifts, which come from the universal, creative Spirit that many people call God, is freedom.

God is the creator of all. He gives to everyone. He has created the blessing of freedom in many different, spiritual forms. He promises freedom to think and act rightly; freedom to live without frustration or limitation. He also promises to all His children freedom to exist peacefully and independently, with dominion over their own thinking and action. As the Bible puts it, everyone is free to live "under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid." n1

According to spiritual law we are all entitled to these freedoms today. In truth nobody can ever be deprived of them.God -- divine Spirit -- is all-powerful. He is also infinite Love. Love's law not only ensures that we are free and well supplied with all good, but it annuls the belief that there are hostile laws and influences to enslave us mentally or physically, or deprive us of anything we need.

We can all prove this now, no matter how limited we may feel. What we need to do is trust God and know that we are governed by divine law. We also need to obey this law and claim its freeing promises. Christ Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." n2 He proved this by freeing many people from bondage to frustrating and discordant conditions, limitation, and superstition.

The laws of God exist forever and never change. These spiritual laws which brought freedom and dominion to people in Jesus' time 2000 years ago, will bring us just as many benefits today if we understand and apply them in our lives.

God's laws assure each of us that we are free to develop the qualities of intelligence and harmony that the creative Mind, or Soul, gives impartially to all. They guarantee everyone the freedom to be whole and healthy. Each may express the vital attributes of divine Life in useful activity, joy, productivity, and satisfaction. They enable us to prove that all expressions of the divine creator are amply supplied with the good things of spiritual being. Each is equally endowed with power and opportunity to display the fullness of man's potential as the outcome of the infinitely good divine Principle.

The spiritual law that ensures freedom is the law of Truth and Love; so the privilege of freedom cannot be used in any way that would be unjust or damaging to others.If we confuse freedom to express the qualities of divine Spirit with license to do anything, we may be impelled to do by selfishness and human will, we miss the way of true freedom. The benefits of God's love will be obscured for us until we repent and return to the acknowledgment of God's law of universal love and obey it.

Christian Science is encouraging people everywhere of take possesion of the good gift of freedom that God gives man. Mary Baker Eddy, who is the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,m "Citizens of the world, accept the 'glorious liberty of the children of God,' and be free! This is your divine right." n3 This Science insists that we can begin right now to get our freedom from all discord and limitation. We can accept God's 'glorious liberty' and rejoice in it.
